Choosing a therapist
How do you choose a therapist?
There are many therapists in Brighton and indeed as people now work remotely, there are a very large selection of therapists. There are many different therapeutic approaches and many recommendations you can take from friends, websites and organisations. Choosing a therapist therefore has many variables.
If I can offer you an approach that has worked for me.
Therapy involves you exploring, understanding and responding to aspects in your life and this is best enabled within a certain type of relationship. How you relate is a unique thing and has no doubt varied throughout your life. As such you need to find out if your relationship with your therapist feels right to you.
Whilst this sense of feeling right can take people some time to establish. It might be helpful for you to take a session with a number of therapists to see who fits you for what you are presenting with. I offer a reduced rate first session so that you can see if our relationship works for you.
If a therapist isn’t accredited by a widely accepted organisation then it is unlikely that they trained effectively for psychotherapy or that they work within industry accepted ethical guidelines. You can check my accreditation in the first two links below.
The main accrediting bodies are:
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
British Association for Behavioural & Cognitive Psychotherapies
