Cancer Psychotherapy
What is cancer psychotherapy?
Its therapy for people either with cancer, or for people who know people with cancer
Cancer Therapy will vary very much client to client.
For people with cancer
Some people are having cancer for the first time, for some its metastasising, for some they are getting another cancer diagnosis.
There can be many strong feelings that come with all of this, that both the client has and their loved ones.
People with cancer can have a variety of different needs in therapy.
To get support through the treatments, or to work with their fears of it returning, or facing their death.
Some like a space to say or to feel things that are more difficult to express with their loved ones.
As cancer can shake up people’s worlds and radically change things, clients can also want to, maybe grieve the old world, maybe explore and make sense of the new world.
Some clients also just like to talk\explore non cancer related topics with someone who is aware of their cancer.
For people who know people with cancer
Cancer can be very difficult for the loved ones of people with cancer.
Its something that you suffer from that isn’t happening to you. You can be affected in the similar ways as the person with cancer: your world can be thrown up into the air, there can be strong feelings, however It can sometimes be difficult to express your needs and feelings as you aren’t the person with cancer
Therapy therefore, can allow space for you to be listened to, cared for, have a space to express feelings, to make sense of what is going on for you.
